One of the goals of Waltham Fields Community Farm is to connect people with the land, their food, and the local food movement through educational opportunities. The Children's Learning Garden, resting on a tenth-acre at the UMass Extension farm site, plays a large role in doing just that by providing children ages 0-11 with the opportunity to take an active part in the growing season. Although specific activities and topics change throughout the year, CLG programming generally discusses the fundamentals of plants, animals and insects, soil and compost, small farms and farmers markets. Programming strongly emphasizes a farm-to-plate connection by including cooking activities that typically require the children to harvest their own crops!
We've been working hard to get the garden ready for our summer programming. In a matter of a few weeks, Waltham Field's Learning Garden has exploded with life.
